I was thinking why it is always "skateboarding" against "Inline"? Why isn't it "inline" vs "skateboarding"? I don't see any of us inliners ever writing such stupid articles so why do skateboarders do this? Well I think it is because in one sense we inliners don't care about skateboarding. We don't care what they do. I think most of us don't have any opinion about them because we are too busy with inline skating to care about skateboarding. We are not looking at the other side of the fence and watching what our neighbours are doing. It seems there is a hell of a lot of skateboarders looking at us and seeing what we are doing and whenever possible trying to make complicated theories that make no sense to anyone. So what do I care that skateboarding came from surfing? I don't surf and I don't skateboard, so do I care about either? Nope. Do I care about curling? Riding horses? Water polo? Ice-skating? Horse-shoe throwing? or Cow manure tossing? Nope. I don't do any of these things so I don't care -- but cow manure tossing sounds exciting.
So why is it that skateboarders lately are so interested in inline skating? Why do we bug them so much they have to write these amazing book size articles? I guess it is because we have survived and against all their predictions we are still going strong. I guess they expected us to fade away and just disappear and we are still here. Many streamline companies have abandoned inline skating but we are still here, we are still doing what we love and we are not dying away but actually becoming stronger. Inline skaters themselves are taking control of inline skating. We are not letting unknown big corporations use us but then I look on MTV and I see skateboarders been used like clowns. We are doing our comps, we are doing our films, we have our own magazines and our clothes brands so what's wrong with this? Well we don't worship skateboarding that's what's wrong. We are supposed to worship them and we don't, silly us.
I think its great all these "anti-inline" articles that are coming out. I like them because it makes me proud to be an inline skater. I want more. I thank them for their advertising of inline skating. So who came first? The skateboard, the rollerblade, the surfboard or the chicken on inline skates? Who cares!!! We don't care, but according to history there was a roller blade over 100 years ago but I guess none of us ever thinks about this because it is irrelevant when you are trying to land a trick.
Skateboarding is bigger than inline, so what? Golfing is bigger than skateboarding- more money, more prizes, more advertising coverage, more media coverage. Let's not mention Tennis either. Does it mean Golfing is the best thing to do? Hmmm I could not find anything more boring to do but it means nothing to me. Golfing is something some other people do in the same way as skateboarding. I don't hate golfers or skateboarders, I don't care about it or think about it. Let skateboarders think about this. I guess many skateboarder walk with a chip on their shoulders and want some kind of respect. Why they want respect from inliners I got no clue but that's their problem and not ours. I guess now some loony skateboarder will start writing why skateboarding is better than gold and tennis and should get more respect. I guess maybe there will x-treme golf-skateboarding world championships soon.
So another nutty skateboarder guy writes a weird history of skateboarding and inline, why should we care? There will be more such articles with weird theories, history of tricks, names of people who did this or that and what happened back in 1952. No matter what- I don't care. We should say "thanks mate! but we don't care.. now I have to go and BLADE!".
